Tirumala, Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple

The temple of Sri Venkateswara Swamy (Balaji) sits atop the Tirumala hills, roughly 22 km from Tirupati town (about 45–60 minutes by road, to be confirmed). It is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the world, so a little planning goes a long way.

Getting there from Arcade Stay Inn

  • By bus: APSRTC buses to Tirumala run frequently from the nearby RTC bus stand, up the ghat road.
  • By taxi or share-auto: available from town; convenient for families and elders.
  • On foot: the devout climb the Alipiri Mettu or Srivari Mettu footpaths, carry water and start early.

Darshan (managed by TTD)

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) manages darshan. Options generally include free Sarva Darshan, time-slot special-entry darshan, and various sevas. Slots, accommodation and sevas are best booked in advance on tirumala.org, especially on weekends and festivals.

  • Carry a valid government photo ID; it is required for darshan and bookings.
  • Dress modestly; traditional attire is appreciated.
  • Laddu prasadam tokens are issued with darshan.
  • Provisions exist for senior citizens, differently-abled devotees and infants, check current TTD rules.

Govindaraja Swamy Temple

A major Vaishnavite temple in the heart of Tirupati town, a short distance from us. Many devotees visit Govindaraja Swamy along with their Tirumala trip. Timings vary through the day, please check locally or ask your host.

Padmavathi Ammavari Temple, Tiruchanur

Dedicated to Goddess Padmavathi (Alamelu Manga), this temple at Tiruchanur is about 3 km from the homestay. By long tradition, many devotees seek Ammavari’s blessings as part of the Tirupati pilgrimage.

Best time & tips

  • Weekdays are usually less crowded than weekends and festival days (Brahmotsavam, Vaikunta Ekadasi, Rathasapthami).
  • Start early and keep buffer time for queues and security.
  • Stay close to transport, as we are, so an early start is easy.
Sources & please verify: Darshan, seva and accommodation: official TTD, tirumala.org. Buses: APSRTC. Trains: IRCTC. Timings and rules change; always confirm before travel.
